Xavi Simons is left without the World Cup. The Dutchman injured his knee in his Tottenham game against Wolveshad to leave the field on a stretcher and today he received the worst news: he broke his cruciate and he misses the end of the season, with his team fighting to avoid relegation, and the World Cup.
“They say life can be cruel and today it feels that way. My season is ending abruptly and I’m trying to process it. Honestly, I’m heartbroken. None of this makes sense,” the Dutchman wrote on his Instagram account.
Simons, 23, was going to be one of the stars of the Netherlands team in the World Cup despite Tottenham’s poor season. “The only thing I have wanted is to fight for my team and Now that possibility has been taken away from me… along with the World Cup. Being able to represent my country this summer… has vanished,” he continued in his letter.
“It will take time to find peace with this, but I will continue to be the best teammate I can be. I have no doubt that together we will win this fight,” says Simons. which leaves Tottenham without its quality with four games left and two points from salvation.
