There is no greater superstar than Ilia Topuria (17-0) in the current UFC. Excluding the numbers of Conor McGregor’s return, which will be barbaric, the ‘Matador’ has consolidated himself at the top of one of the fastest growing sports on the planet. His way of winning, his winning streak and his contract say so. own UFC recognizes it with that status of ‘global phenomenon’.
And that is why, despite the difficulty, the desire to put an end to the new MMA monarch is very sweet. And that’s what he talked about Justin Gaethje (27-5), his rival, when asked by MARCA at Media Day in Washington DC
Where would you put a victory over the Hispano-Georgian? “I think it would absolutely cement me as the most exciting, the most consistent… but one of the most legendary fighters to ever step foot in the cage. And I’ve been a lover of this sport since the beginning, I’ve seen everyone’s career… and yes, I think mine would be at the top. This is worthy of a movie,” he argued.
Beating Topuria would make me one of the most legendary fighters to ever step foot in the cage.
Justin Gaethje
And to be honest, Gaethje has nothing to prove: former BMF champion, two-time interim lightweight champion (the only one to achieve this in history) and an incredible career full of top-level rivals. He has faced the best and has achieved KOs that will remain in the collective imagination. And even so, the big objective is the ‘Matador’.
