The decision on the future Málaga CF stadium is beginning to take shape. The three administrations that own La Rosaleda – Málaga City Council, the Andalusian Government and the Provincial Council – have made public the study prepared by the UTE formed by TYPSA and Fenwick Iribarren, a report that places the construction of a new stadium in the University area as the preferred option and practically rules out the remodeling of the current Martiricos campus.
The document concludes that a reconstruction of La Rosaleda would limit the capacity of the stadium to about 43,000 spectators, a figure significantly lower than the 55,000 seats, expandable in the future, that could be achieved in both the University and San Cayetano alternatives.
The institutions justify this decision by a series of technical and economic conditions that penalize continuity in Martiricos. These include the facility’s lower growth capacity, design and functionality limitations, lower attractiveness for private investment, higher execution costs, and difficulties related to operation and parking. For all these reasons, the priority option becomes the development of the project on the University’s grounds.
To explain the conclusions of the study and the path that will be followed from now on, the three administrations appeared this Thursday before the media in the Patio de Banderas of the Malaga City Council. Juan Antonio Alba, general coordinator of Infrastructure and Projects of the City Council, participated in the press conference; Francisco de la Torre, mayor of Malaga; Cristóbal Ortega, vice president of the Provincial Council; and Patricia Navarro, delegate of the Government of the Junta de Andalucía in Malaga.
