SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers went deep within the playbook to open up the scoring towards the Arizona Cardinals.
Coach Kyle Shanahan dialed up a l on San Francisco's third play from scrimmage Sunday to show a precarious third-and-12 from deep in 49ers territory into an 82-yard rating.
Brock Purdy threw a fast 6-yard cross to Mike Evans, who flipped it to a sprinting Deebo Samuel as he was being tackled properly in need of the primary down. Samuel then sprinted down the sideline, broke a sort out close to midfield and scored to make it 7-0.
