Basketball continues to leave us images that we do not like to see, undesirable. This, precisely, is what happened after the fifth game of the Greek league final between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos. After the current Euroleague champions beat their eternal rival again and won a hat trick that culminates a great season, Tyrique Jones (OLY) and Kendrick Nunn (PAO) starred in an unfortunate episode in the locker room tunnel that ended with the former hitting the latter in the face with a clean punch.
An initial confrontation on the track in which Jones pushed Nunn ended in a violent act in which Greek security forces had to intervene to stop it from escalating. Faced with this situation, the Panathinaikos coach, Ergin Ataman, visibly angry, has raised his voice against this behavior of the eternal rival’s povt: “Tyrique Jones came into our locker room and hit Kendrick Nunn! Nunn is injured at the moment, how can this damn Jones do something like that? How can something like that happen? It’s a shame for Greek basketball,” he stated angrily.
The visiting players, when they found out what had happened, wanted to go directly after their opponents and start an even bigger fight, but the large police presence prevented this. In the end, rival players such as Nigel Hayes-Davis and Thomas Walkup, who previously shared a team, ended up talking calmly after the fight.
