Xavier Today Aguirre has made the Mexican National Team the first, with a significant group, to concentrate for the World Cup. There are 35 days left until the World Cup and El Vasco’ called last night, Wednesday, 12 players from Liga MX along with a group of sparring partners, to begin the concentration prior to the 2026 World Cup.
And the thing, as is usual in Mexico, It started with controversy. Javier ‘El Vasco’ Aguirre, a system that also happened in the 86 World Cup in Mexico, walked around, months ago, by all the clubs in Mexico to obtain a key permit: to release their players on May 6 to be able to hold a long concentration that successfully ends in a good World Cup for one of the hosts.
Well, this week Toluca stood out by not releasing Alexis Vega and Jesús Gallardo, its two summoned players, so that they could play in the first leg of the Concacaf semifinals. Champions Cup (won 4-0 in the end without them). And, obviously, the rest of the clubs blew up the pact.
The most Belligerent was Amaury Vergara, owner of Chivas, who threatened not to loan out the five players on his team: Raúl Rangel, Armando ‘La Hormiga’ González, Brian Gutiérrez, Luis Romo and Roberto ‘Piojo’ Alvarado. Let us remember that Chivas is in the middle of the Liguilla for the Liga MX title.
And there El Vasco Aguirre had to intervene with a threat: “The player who did not attend today – yesterday – before 8:00 p.m. at the High Performance Center will not be In the World Cup, we cannot make exceptions.”
And, obviously, there was a reaction from both clubs and the seven players involved. and everyone showed up on time. Issue resolved and National Team concentrated for the World Cup. “Today is the big day, today the World Cup starts. We are all very happy”said the coach in an appearance that did not accept questions. and thanked Chivas and Toluca for their support. “No one has broken the pact. At the moment everything is in accordance with what we signed,” he added.
Mexico has 35 days to prepare for its World Cup and the third in which Aguirre will lead his country (2002, 2010 and 2026).
