“I want to be president of the Community of Madrid”

The news has arrived in the party on the left of the PSOE, Más Madrid: Mónica García has publicly confirmed her decision to compete for the Presidency of the Community of Madrid in the next electoral cycle. After her time in the Government of Spain as Minister of Health, the leader seeks to return to regional politics with the aim of leading an institutional alternative that transforms the management of the region, focusing her proposal on strengthening public services and changing the administrative model.

During his speech, García highlighted the importance of assuming direct responsibility for the structural problems of the region. In his words: “In these years, as a doctor and as a minister, I have learned that if you want to change things, you have to go to the root of the problems and you have to roll up your sleeves. You have to take charge. Is there anything more wonderful than taking charge? (…) There is a moment when these steps must be taken even further. We must take even more steps. We have to confront ourselves even more, putting ourselves even more in front“.

The candidate linked this new stage with the need to transfer the experience acquired at the national level to Madrid territory. In this sense, he stated: “And if we want to change that root, go to the root of the problemswe have to govern Madrid. And after a long time, after a lot of thinking, I have made a decision: and if you accompany me and give me your support, I want to be the president of the Community of Madrid. I want Ayuso to go, I want her harmful policies to go“.

A collective project against the Ayuso model

Mónica García’s proposal is presented as a direct challenge to the current president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, seeking to mobilize the social base of the region. The leader underlined her desire for political confrontation by declaring: “I want it to be worthwhile in the military, I want it to be worth doing politics, I want it to be worth fighting against that Goliath that has done us so much harm.. And that path, of course, I am not going to walk alone. I’m going to walk through it hand in hand with Manuela, Rita, Edu and of course Emilio, of course! “All together, we all need each other.”

Finally, García called for territorial organization and the unity of his political party, Más Madrid, to achieve electoral victory. At the closing of his announcement, he noted: “The future is ours and we have to reconquer it, and we are going to do it hand in hand, of course, always with More Madridside by side with the entire team. I am convinced that we can win, that we can recover Madrid for its people. I ask you that we knock on every door, that we call each neighborhood, that we call each person“.
