The mother of Noelia Castillothe 25-year-old girl with paraplegia who was subjected to euthanasia in Barcelona the past March 26 of 2026 after the authorization of the Guarantee and Evaluation Commission of Catalonia, has now released a video through his social networks in which he questions the procedure followed in his daughter’s case and demands the elimination of the euthanasia law.
In his testimony, Yolanda Ramos expresses his discomfort with the process and assures that he does not share the criteria applied. “My daughter had her whole life ahead of her. He was only 25 years old. We lost the opportunity, but we have also lost the opportunity now with that Government we have. For me, euthanasia… I don’t understand it this way. We have been told that euthanasia is for people with terminal illnesses, but it is not true, my daughter did not have any terminal illness.”, he states.
Yolanda Ramos, mother of Noelia Castillo: “I could not and have never been able to decide for her”
The woman maintains that, as a mother, she did not have decision-making capacity or access to her daughter’s medical information. “I, as a mother, have to look after the good of my daughter. Since she was of legal age, I was not allowed to see her history or decide for her.“, he denounces, also recounting difficulties in requesting medical tests during his stay in a social and health center.
Ramos criticizes that the final resolution fell to a committee: “I was nothing. In the end, a guarantee committee is the one who decides for her, but I, the mother, could not and have never been able to decide for her.”.
In the video, he also addresses a message to the leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo: “Now I only ask Feijóo, Mr. Feijóo, to please make this law disappear. I don’t want there to be more Noelias. This euthanasia law has to disappear completely”.
Finally, he announces his intention to create a foundation in memory of his daughter, aimed at supporting people with mental disorders or disabilities, although he recognizes that for now he lacks the means to launch it.
