The town of Vado, located in the hills of Camaiore, in the Italian province of Lucca, is in shock after the double homicide that occurred this Wednesday inside a family home. Piero Moriconi, 63 years old, has been arrested accused of murdering his wife, Kety Andreoni, 52, and his son, Mirko Moriconi, 24, with a hunting rifle.
According to Italian media reports, Emergency services were notified early in the afternoon after several neighbors heard gunshots coming from the home. Carabinieri troops, police officers, medical teams, ambulances and the Pegaso 3 emergency helicopter traveled to the scene. However, Upon arrival they could only certify the death of both victims.
The alleged perpetrator did not try to flee the scene of the crime. He remained in the house until the arrival of the security forces, who proceeded to arrest him. According to the first information, Piero Moriconi was still carrying the weapon used in the crime and would have stated to the agents: “I got rid of them“.
The first investigations indicate that The motive for the crime could be related to the aggressor’s rejection of his son’s identity and sexual orientation. Mirko Moriconi had suffered for years from his father’s opposition, a situation that, according to investigations, had recently worsened. His mother had taken a stand in defense of the young man, which would have increased tension within the family nucleus.
After knowing the tragedy, A video previously recorded by Mirko Moriconi has come to light in which he recounted the rejection he suffered from his father. In said video, the young man assured: “For my father it is better to be dead than to be gay“.
The commotion generated by the crime has led the mayor of Camaiore, Marcello Pierucci, to decree a day of official mourning. The City Council has also observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims during the municipal session held this Wednesday, while Investigations continue to clarify all the details of what happened.
