It doesn’t seem like the most professional image in the world, but at least it was effective. The second half of Rayo-Espanyol had to be delayed because the line judge Judith Romano found a hole in the net of the Vallecas back goal… and Cárdenas got to work to fix it.
In another LaLiga stadium an operator with a ladder or some similar device would have jumped to be able to fix the net and re-anchor it to the pole, but not in Vallecas. Cárdenas grabbed a roll of duct tape, stood on tiptoe, and began attaching the net to the pole.
But since he didn’t reach completely well, despite his height, decided to get on a balloon to finish the job. It wasn’t safe, it wasn’t the most recommended, but it helped. Of course, with external help so as not to get disgraced. And this is how the second half was played in Vallecas, with the stick and crossbar of the goal defended by Rayo Vallecano ‘tied’ with insulating tape to the net.
