In an end to the party full of interesting duels at the Ciudad de Málaga Stadium, the most notable thing about the last day of the Spanish Championship was the David Barroso triumphs in the 800m ahead of world and European medalist Mohamed Attaoui. The Extremaduran controlled the race at all times waiting for the final attack of the Cantabrian athlete from the OAC Europe.
A comeback that this time took a while because Attaoui was still seventh with 200 meters to go. It was at that moment when the Olympic finalist in Paris activated the turbine to climb back to second place and enter the final stretch in Barroso’s wake.
For a moment, it seemed that Attaoui was hunting the best Spanish eight-centre player of the season but the CAPEX athlete gritted his teeth in the last 30 meters and finished winning with a time of 1:46.73, twelve hundredths less than the dethroned king.
