Alberto González (50:53) was fifth in the World Series in London (Great Britain), sixth stop on the circuit, in a test in which Australian Matthew Hauser won in the men’s category and France’s Cassandre Beaugrand won in the women’s category. Marta Pintanel (57:51) was twenty-ninth in the female category.
González, who was eighth at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, has not yet been on the podium this season in the previous five events. He lost just 14 seconds from the lead at the start of the swimming section, time he recovered on the bike.
He made the last transition with the leading group and faced the part of the race always in the top eight, taking advantage of the downturns to even lead the test. However, a 10-second penalty that he had to serve practically in the final stretch prevented him from fighting for the podium and relegated him to fifth place.
The podium was made up of the Australian Matthew Hauser (50:28), in his third victory of the year in the World Seriesthe Portuguese Vasco Vilaça (50:31) and the Hungarian Csongor Lehmann (50:36).
In the women’s category, first place went to the Frenchwoman Cassandre Beaugrand (56:06), current Olympic champion and that also has three victories in the World Series. Second was the German Lisa Tertsch (56:11), and the Swede completed the podium Tilda Mansson (56:21).
