He Himalayas has lost another of the mountains that remained untamed. A Korean expedition, led by mountaineer Ahn Chi-young, reached the top of Sat Peak (6,220 meters) in the Kangchenjunga region (Nepal). It had never been to its summit before.
The Korean Mountaineering Federation announced the goal achieved by its team, consisting of seven people, on May 2. “Ahn Chi-young, together with Lee Sang-guk and Lee Ui-jun, successfully achieved the summit,” he said in a statement.
The climbers arrived in Kathmandu in April. He attack on the summit lasted five days. On Tuesday, April 28, they left Base Camp to install Camp 1 under the east face and advanced to Camp 2 the next day. Bad weather delayed the ascent to Camp 3, which they reached on May 1, for 24 hours. The next day they set foot on the top.
“The first ascent of the Korean expedition to Sat Peak It is an achievement that demonstrates the strength and indomitable spirit of Korean mountaineers. “I am proud of the team for reaching the summit in traditional alpine style,” said Korea Alpine Federation President Cho Jwa-jin.
The Italians Stefano Ragazzo and Silvia Loreggian reached a secondary summit (about 6,100 meters) in 2022but they did not reach the top as if the Koreans would have achieved it. “This expedition overcame the difficulty of the section and successfully reached the summit through the routes of the east and southeast walls,” noted the Korean Federation.
