This Tuesday in London, the Spanish hockey team added a great victory in the women’s FIH Pro League by defeating, with a comeback included, 2-1 against the Argentine ‘Las Leonas’, who conceded their second defeat in the highest annual national team competition after the one suffered against the intractable Netherlands (0-4) in December 2025.
Luciana Molina and Flor Amundson They signed the comeback of the team he leads Carlos García Cuenca at London’s Lee Valley stadium, to provisionally place Spain in fourth place in the standings, in the absence of their last three games, again against Argentina and twice against England.
‘Las Leonas’, second in the International Federation (FIH) ranking and current Olympic bronze medalists, struck first with a penalty corner that Candela Mejías deflected and then with a goal from Agostina Alonso at the end of the first quarter.
Another penalty corner that Coti Amundson cut left Argentina with the minimum advantage until the break, canceled at the end of the third quarter when Patricia Álvarez surpassed the rival defense on the right wing and served a ball that Luciana Molina sent into the net between Cristina Cosentino’s legs.
The goal encouraged the ‘RedSticks’, who had a corner after their first penalty and, although they did not make it profitable, they did later when, on a counterattack, Flor Amundson received a ball from Blanca Pérez and alone, against ‘China’ Cosentino, made the final 2-1. Argentina then unsuccessfully demanded a review of its last penalty corner canceled by the Spanish defense.
Argentines and Spaniards will meet again on Friday the 23rd in the same stadium, although Spain will play tomorrow against England and will close its participation in the Pro League again against the English team on Saturday the 27th.
After 12 games, the Netherlands remains at the top of the standings with 11 wins in as many games and 36 points, followed by Argentina (27 points), Belgium (25), Spain (19) and China (18). The lowest ranked team, which is currently England, loses the category.
