“The new Athletic shirt does not attack the symbolism of Navarra”

Javier Remirezfirst vice president and counselor of the Presidency and Equality of the Government of Navarra, has stated that theAthletic Club t-shirt, questioned by UPN, PP and Voxdoes not violate or misuse the official symbols of Navarra.

This is an explanation because Navarro People’s Union (UPN) has warned Athletic Club de Bilbao that it will go to court but remove the map of Euskal Herriain which includes the territory of Navarraof the new kit that has been presented for next season.

From here on, the use of unofficial symbols by a private entity does not correspond to the Government of Navarra’s position nor does it fall within its scope of competence.

Remírez has pointed out, in a publication on the social network The exclusive identity symbols of the Foral Community are “the flag, the shield and the anthem of Navarra”.

As explained by the vice president, the legal protection included in the regulations “is limited to these official symbols”, as established in article 3 of the aforementioned provincial law.

In this sense, the vice president has assured that in the case of the Bilbao club’s shirt “the official symbols of Navarra are not compromised or misused”, as they are elements other than those expressly included in the legislation of this community.

Remírez has also recalled that the Athletic Club is “a private association” and not a public administration or an entity dependent on a public institution.

“From here on, the use of unofficial symbols by a private entity does not correspond to the Government of Navarra’s position nor does it fall within its scope of competence,” he stated.

However, the vice president has stressed that the Regional Executive “claims its official symbols as a reflection of its institutionality as its own and differentiated Regional Community.”
