The curtain rises on the second week of Wimbledon. On Monday, July 7, Jannik Sinner will face Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16. There are two other Italian athletes competing today. On court 2, at 12 noon, Flavio Cobolli will face Croatian Malin Cilic. Meanwhile, on court 1 (second match of a program starting at 2 p.m.), Lorenzo Sonego will compete for a place in the quarterfinals against American Ben Shelton.

The latest is written in bold in the history of our sport: in the quarterfinals of last year’s Roland Garros, Jannik was cruising after winning the first two sets. Then news spread of Djokovic’s withdrawal: the Italian completed his assault on the number 1 throne. And he laughed: “I’m happy with the achievement, I made many sacrifices when I was young and I continue to make them to improve myself. I made choices, not sacrifices, like the one two years ago.” A reference to his split with coach Riccardo Piatti: Dimitrov, meanwhile, applauded from the other side of the court. Incidentally, Sinner arrives at Wimbledon after another shake-up in his team: the split with Marco Panichi and Ulises Badio. Who knows, maybe the encounter with the Bulgarian will bring luck this time around too.
