Technically talking, Mike Evans turned a San Francisco 49er again in March, when the staff introduced his signing of a three-year contract. However technicalities be damned; the day Evans actually turned a 49er was simply earlier than halfway via Sunday’s recreation towards the Seahawks.
Simply earlier than halftime, the printed cameras caught Evans getting right into a little bit of trash speak with Seattle nook Trevon Diggs. Whereas it is not clear what the 2 stated to 1 one other, it turned very clear that the Niners receiver gained the back-and-forth when he turned Diggs to learn his staff plate as if to say, “Who’re you?” The transfer goaded Diggs into throwing a one-handed shove at Evans, who laughed as he walked away.

That viral second was only one (albeit notable) piece of Evans’ full-on arrival with the Niners. In only one recreation he already surpassed one other growing old future Corridor of Famer the Niners as soon as signed to bolster a Tremendous Bowl-aspiring offense in Randy Moss. For his first style of this bloodthirsty NFC West rivalry, he made seven catches for 113 yards, one landing and a two-point conversion.
Not solely had been all of his catches highlight-worthy, however they had been an ideal distillation of why San Francisco introduced signed him within the first place. Kyle Shanahan’s facet wanted a receiver who may make the necessary play when known as upon with out fail. That is precisely what he did whether or not it was toe-tapping on a sideline seize, beating his man on a jump-ball, out-muscling a defender in the long run zone or just being in the correct place on the proper time for a Brock Purdy dot.
As if that wasn’t spectacular sufficient, he did all of that whereas his physique continues to recuperate from two damaged ribs. Final week was a really heroic feat as he performed via conspicuous agony that got here via on the finish of each play he was concerned in. He nonetheless required the protecting vest beneath his jersey to maintain his damage from getting any worse this week, but when there have been any lingering impacts from an damage that will preserve anybody else bedridden, he did not present it on Sunday.
Actually, he was in fairly a jovial temper on the podium after the 32-29 win, particularly when a reporter requested him about that mini confrontation with Diggs.
“I truthfully did not comprehend it was him, as a result of within the helmet it is arduous to inform generally.” Evans stated, chuckling. “And we had been simply speaking trash and I believe I like pushed him and I used to be like, ‘Who’re you?’ And I seemed to ensure and I used to be like, ‘Oh, that is f-king Diggs.’ After which he mushed me – that ought to have been a penalty – however it’s what it’s.”
