Manchester City have officially announced the acquisition of Italian shot-stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain, following the departure of Brazil international Ederson to Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
The 26-year-old keeper has committed to a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium, with reports suggesting the Premier League champions paid approximately £26 million ($35 million) to secure his services.
Donnarumma will don the number 99 jersey for City and arrives with an impressive pedigree, having played a crucial role in PSG’s Champions League triumph last season. The towering goalkeeper also helped guide Italy to European Championship glory at Euro 2020.
Speaking about his move to Manchester, Donnarumma expressed his excitement: “Signing for Manchester City represents an incredibly special and proud milestone in my career. I’m becoming part of a squad filled with exceptional talent under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, one of football’s most legendary coaches. This is the type of club that every footballer dreams of joining.”
The announcement came just one day after the summer transfer window officially closed, marking a significant late addition for City.
Standing at an imposing 1.96 meters tall, Donnarumma began his professional journey at AC Milan, making his first-team debut at just 16 years old. He subsequently joined the Parisian club in 2021, where he established himself as one of Europe’s premier goalkeepers.
Throughout his career, the Italian international has accumulated 412 club appearances and earned 74 caps for his national team, demonstrating his consistent high-level performance.
City’s sporting director Hugo Viana praised the signing, describing it as a major strengthening for the club during what has been a challenging start to the current campaign.

The transfer represents a significant goalkeeper reshuffle for City, who bid farewell to long-time number one Ederson after his successful stint in Manchester.
