J.on Rahm and the DP World Tour have reached an agreement that will allow the Spanish golfer compete on the European Tour this season and not be penalized for playing LIV Golf events. At the beginning of this year the ‘León de Barrika’ rejected an initial offer from the DPWT to return that other players did accept and the agreement seemed somewhat further away once the Biscayan declared that the circuit was “extorting players” who wanted to return from LIV Golf.
However, the Basque insisted that he hoped to reach an agreement soon and this has already occurred. “The DP World Tour and Jon Rahm have reached an agreement regarding the conditional release of his rights to participate in tournaments that coincide with others in LIV Golf during the remainder of the 2026 season. This involves payment of all outstanding fines accumulated from 2024 to date, along with participation in agreed DP World Tour tournaments. (outside of the Majors) during the remainder of the 2026 season”reads a statement issued by the DP World Tour on Tuesday.
The agreement is similar to the one that eight other LIV players signed in February, including Tyrrell Hatton, in exchange for authorization to participate without penalty in LIV events in 2026. To date, he had agreed to pay the fines, but was not satisfied with the obligation to play two extra tournaments – in addition to the four stipulated to maintain membership – which, furthermore, could not be chosen. That was the sticking point until now, but both sides have given in and There will be five events that Rahm plays this year in the DPWT without counting the Majors.
Before the 2027 season they will have to sit down to negotiate again, but for now Rahm will score points again for next year’s Ryder Cup at Adare Manor.
