The Grizzlies scored 29 three-pointers, equaling the single-game record in NBA history… and lost comfortably (126-142). Against the Cavaliers, not even one performance was enough for the history that places them alongside the Bucks (2020) and the Celtics (2024). In their day, they did benefit from their respective triplet barrages.
Nine players scored at least one triple in the Grizzlies, who had a high success percentage (49.2%) despite the high volume of shots they took: 59 from the perimeter and 35 from two points. Substitutes Adama Bal and Dariq Whitehead scored six, Lucas Williamson had five and Olivier-Maxime Prosper had four. He was his team’s top scorer with 24 points.
“We can be very proud of how we played. The guys wanted to go for it at the end, and we all supported them. Unfortunately we couldn’t set a record, but we equaled it,” said coach Tuomas Iisalo about his team’s strategy, which in the final minutes purposely fouled the Cavaliers so that the clock didn’t run out and they could have more possessions in search of the milestone. In the last quarter they made 10 triples. “They shot with amazing accuracy,” praised Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson.
The Grizzlies, who more than doubled their three-point average (13.7), lost their eighteenth game in the last 20. Not even the record prevented them from winning against the Cavaliers who, in the second game on consecutive nights, rested James Harden and Donovan Mitcell. Without them, they were led by Evan Mobley (24 points), Dennis Schroder (22) and Sam Merrill (21).
