JOHANNESBURG (AP) — e, South Africa's first Black present leaping champion and veteran equestrian, has died on the age of 80, his household introduced on Thursday.
Mafokate broke racial boundaries in a sport that was dominated by white riders throughout South Africa's d. He was broadly referred to as “Kgosi ya Dipere,” a Sesotho language phrase which interprets to ”King of Horses.”

Mafokate began out as a stablehand. He gained his first driving competitors in 1963 however the nation's segregation legal guidelines prevented him from participating in additional competitions till 1975.
In 1980, he was the primary Black South African man to compete internationally as a present jumper, putting fifth out of 31 riders on the Royal Worldwide Horse Present at Wembley.

He spent his latter years growing younger Black riders in Soweto township by way of the Soweto Equestrian Centre, a horse driving college he established in 2006. There he skilled a whole bunch of younger individuals in horse driving and animal welfare.
In 2015 on the South Africa sport awards he obtained a lifetime achievement honor.
