Czech Mensik sneaks into Fonseca’s Brazilian party and makes his debut in a Grand Slam semi-final

When Paris was preparing for a Brazilian party, Jakub Mensik (26) sneaked into it this Tuesday to appease the Philippe Chatrier stands and eliminate Joao Fonseca (28), 6-4, 6-3 and 7-6(3), in 2 hours and 33 minutes. The Carioca did not have his day, the complete opposite of Mensik, an ice tennis player whose fast play is doing a lot of damage these two weeks on clay.

It will be Mensik who will stand in front of Alexander Zverev next Friday in one of the Roland Garros semifinals. The Czech was able to come back from 5-4 and serve for his rival in the third set.

Fonseca, who will continue behind Rafa Jódar in the ranking, paid for the physical and mental fatigue accumulated in the two previous rounds to eliminate Novak Djokovic and Casper Ruud.

The only precedent between Sascha and Mensik fell on the German’s side in the round of 16 of the recent Mutua Madrid Open.
