The Pacific Division-leading Vegas Golden Knights have made another massive splash, acquiring top-tier defenseman Rasmus Andersson from the Calgary Flames in a Sunday blockbuster.
With the NHL trade deadline approaching and Vegas eyeing another deep playoff run, the front office has secured one of the most coveted puck-moving blueliners on the market.

Why the Deal Happened Now
The trade landscape shifted rapidly over the weekend. According to Flames GM Craig Conroy, it became clear in the final hours of negotiations that Andersson would not be signing an extension with any team prior to the trade.
“That definitely changed the way we had to negotiate and what we got back in return,” Conroy admitted, noting that they had to pivot their strategy once free agency became the player’s definitive path.
Andersson is currently in the final year of a six-year, $27.3 million contract. By retaining half of his salary, Calgary maximized the draft capital and prospect depth returned in the deal.
A Boost for the Vegas Blueline
Vegas has been aggressive this season, already having landed superstar Mitch Marner earlier in the year. The addition of Andersson addresses a critical need on defense. With Alex Pietrangelo away from the team and Brayden McNabb sidelined by injury, Andersson provides immediate stability and offensive production.
