Henry Riquelmepresident of the Cox Group, is seriously considering presenting his candidacy in the imminent Real Madrid elections. As MARCA has learned, the hasty electoral call has not taken him by surprise and he would be ready to enter that race. Sources close to the Alicante businessman explain that “for now we will have to wait for the process to be officially opened.”
Riquelme is the main shareholder of the Cox Group, a very strong company in the renewable energy sector that operates in more than 30 countries. In recent weeks, the possible candidate for the white presidency has grabbed numerous headlines in the economic press around the world for two financial operations: the acquisition of Iberdrola México for about 4,000 million dollars and the record bond issuance in the United States worth $2 billion. He is part of the list of the most influential people in the world against climate change.
Florentino Pérez referred to him without naming him in his Press conference, when he alluded to someone with a “Mexican accent.” although Riquelme is a native of the Alicante town of Cox. Another veiled mention by Pérez of this possible candidacy was when talking about “those children”, alluding to the group of young and successful businessmen, leaders of main companies in our country and many of them very Madrid fans, who are part of Riquelme’s close circle and who could probably accompany him on this adventure if he finally decides to undertake it, as it seems.
In a recent public appearance, Enrique Riquelme was one of the main guests at the massive tribute to the heroes of the Séptima organized by Peñas del Madrid in Alicante. There he shared the presidential table with Pedja Mijatovic and Fernando Sanz, great protagonists of the evening.
