With Shakur Stevenson rising in weight to problem Teofimo Lopez for tremendous light-weight gold, Herrera (18-0, 16 KO) acquired the inexperienced gentle to battle Ricardo Nunez for interim gold and made probably the most of it by n. The WBC wound up stripping Stevenson over (justifiably) unpaid sanctioning charges, however slightly than take both of the plain routes by upgrading Herrera or tossing him right into a vacant title battle, they as a substitute allowed “Camaron” Zepeda (34-1, 27 KO) to t.
Zepeda is a tall order for anybody within the post-Stevenson light-weight division, not to mention a 24-year-old whose greatest victory got here in opposition to a delegated sufferer on the heels of a DQ loss to Jon Fernandez. That mentioned, he needs it and Warren needs it, so who’re we to say no? Except Zepeda can rustle up a unification with Abdullah Mason or elects to e, all indicators level to Herrera getting his shot.
