Gavi was the protagonist in the decisive match for the championship. Starting in the Classic, the midfielder has left his injuries behind and has recovered his best feelings.
The injuries: “Unfortunately, I have suffered a lot in these last two years. It is football. There are serious injuries and you have to be mentally strong. I have been. It is a strong point of me. I am at this level because of the mentality I have. It is not easy to play at this pace coming from two serious injuries. I have done it and I am proud.”
The relationship with Flick: “Luckily the coach trusts me a lot. He is like a father to me. I am very grateful to him. It is not easy to get me to play after this injury. He knows about my talent and mentality and that it is important for the team. He blindly trusts me.”
The match: “We didn’t want to slow down but we wanted to go for the third. We could have scored more but it ended at 2-0 which is good.”
Clash with Vinicius: “It’s football about Vinicius. What happens on the field stays on the field. He’s a hot player like me. Vinicius is a great player. I told him to keep his mouth shut and that’s it. One thing is on the field and another is off. Inside I defend my colors and I go to the death. Outside I’m totally different, although it may not seem like it.”
His relationship with Dembélé: “Ousmane is my brother. Since I arrived here he has always been my brother. He is a very good friend of mine. We have a lot of contact, we always talk and I am very happy for him because he is being one of the best in the world, if not the best along with Lamine.”
The injuries: “Obviously when you have these injuries you think many things. The first months, which are the worst, you think many things. But I am mentally strong and that is what has helped me be where I am today. I have come out better from these two injuries. You learn things in this process. I have improved in many aspects.”
What it brings: “I know that my mentality and my talent are important to the team. Flick has always trusted me a lot.”
The Selection: “De le Fuente has always trusted me. I know it. I was injured with Spain in that match and I had played everything as a starter with him. He came back last season and called me. If I am at my highest level, the coach decides and will decide what is best for Spain. I am more than prepared and I look better than ever.”
