If there was any participant within the NBA able to placing up 50 factors, 20 rebounds and 5 blocks in the identical sport, it was Victor Wembanyama. And even that 7-foot-4 phenom nicknamed the "Alien" hadn't put up such an otherworldly stat line… till final evening.
Wembanyama set career-highs Wednesday with 52 factors and 24 rebounds within the San Antonio Spurs' win over the s. He additionally blocked eight photographs, turning into the primary participant with a 50-20-5 line in these classes since Bob McAdoo in 1974.
For anybody who thought there was no method the 22-year-old may get any higher, I'm afraid to say that is proof he can… and it's occurring.

Positive, Wembanyama had scored 50 in a sport earlier than final evening. And it wasn't his first 20-rebound sport both. His career-high in blocks is definitely 10. However Wednesday was the primary time he did all these issues in the identical sport. It highlighted what seems to be an improved motor and extra aggressive mindset. Which is terrifying, as a result of Wembanyama was already doing issues we'd by no means seen earlier than. Now, it appears, he'll simply do them extra usually.
It's solely been eight video games, however the influence of Wemby's progress on the Spurs this season is already obvious. In accordance with PBP Stats, San Antonio's offense is 13 factors higher with Wembanyama on the ground, and the protection is 21 factors higher. These are big leaps from final season's NBA Finals staff that was seven factors higher on offense and 9 factors higher on protection.
Wembanyama's elevated aggression can also be exhibiting in his counting stats, that are up throughout the board. He's averaging career-highs at 29 factors on 21.9 subject purpose makes an attempt, 12.4 rebounds, 4.5 blocks and 1.4 steals. His capturing splits are down, nevertheless it hasn't negatively impacted the 6-2 Spurs simply but.
The one factor left for Wembanyama to do is harness that aggression into higher effectivity. Even in Wednesday's historic efficiency, he was simply 1-of-8 on 3-pointers.
Which implies he has much more room to develop… scary, I do know. However continued improvement is a standard expectation for any fourth-year participant, together with one who's already been an MVP finalist and Defensive Participant of the Yr. For all of the unimaginable issues Wembanyama has achieved, we haven't even seen his prime but. Let that sink in a second.
