The imputation of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero The ‘Plus Ultra case’ has caught all sectors of politics off guard. Although the former president of the Government defends that he has done everything in accordance with the “legality”the National Court calls him to testify as being investigated for alleged money laundering.
In an explanation published after hearing the news, the former leader of the PSOE expressed his “I wish to exercise my right to defense with all firmness and all the conviction and also that I will attend to the media in the coming days.” In his justification, he reiterated that “I have never had a commercial company either directly, or through third parties, neither in Spain nor outside of Spain, nor have I participated in any operation of this type.”
The reactions have not stopped happening since Zapatero’s words. Sarah Santaolalla, RTVE political analyst, made her verdict clear as soon as the news was announced this Tuesday, May 19: “The dirty war is more alive than ever.”

A day later, and with the appearance of the majority of the country’s political leaders in Congress, Santaolalla’s opinion has not changed one bit: “The car is not devastating. Not a single conversation about Zapatero appears in the car. No link between Zapatero and illegal businesses abroad appears in the car. In the car, influence peddling is not even differentiated from the function of a lobby.”
It is not the only comment he has left on his social networks about Zapatero’s accusation. For her, it is not only a political issue, but there are external actors behind it: “There are judges doing politics, there are media doing politics and there are politicians doing dirty politics.”.
