Outrage over the death of ‘Gold Dancer’ after breaking his back and forcing him to continue to win

It happened at the Aintree Racecourse, located near Liverpool, in the northwest of the United Kingdom, during the Grand National meeting.

Racehorse Gold Dancer had to be put down after suffering a horrific injury during the Mildmay Novices’ Chase at Aintree. The seven-year-old horse broke his back after a bad fall at the last obstacle, although he managed to complete the race and cross the finish line in first position.

Ridden by jockey Paul Townend and trained by Willie Mullins, the severity of the injury became apparent just after finishing the test. Despite receiving immediate veterinary attention on the track, it was not possible to save his life. Aintree Racecourse confirmed his death and extended its condolences to the horse’s entourage.

After his death, social networks have shown their indignation towards the jockey for forcing ‘Gold Dancer’, with his back already broken, to complete the race, showing obvious signs of pain.
