Ryan Nugent-Hopkins couldn’t have scripted a better way to celebrate his 1,000th NHL appearance. On a night dedicated to his career-long loyalty to the Edmonton Oilers, the man affectionately known as “Nuge” netted the game-winning goal in a dominant 5-0 shutout victory over the St. Louis Blues.
Coming off a 6-0 thrashing of the Canucks just 24 hours prior, the Oilers secured their second consecutive shutout, moving to 25-17-8 on the season.
A Historic Night for No. 93
Nugent-Hopkins became just the 63rd player in NHL history to find the back of the net during his 1,000th game. For a player who has spent his entire career in Edmonton since being drafted first overall in 2011, the moment was surreal.
“I haven’t scored in a couple of weeks, so to do it on a night like tonight was special,” Nugent-Hopkins said. “The guys played great, the fans were electric—it’s something I’ll never forget.”
