Dash race will get its personal qualifying session
MotoGP race weekends are going to look completely different in 2027, and we're not simply speaking in regards to the new 850cc engine displacement and Pirelli tires. MotoGP introduced a brand new format for every race weekend, with a separate qualifying session for the Dash race, making a separate beginning grid for the Dash and for the Grand Prix.
Beginning subsequent season, the grid for the Saturday Dash races will likely be set by a devoted 15-minute qualifying session on Friday afternoon, open to all riders. The Sunday race may have its personal qualifying classes. Till now, qualifying classes on Saturdays set the grid for each races.
The reworked Friday opens with a 45-minute FP1, unchanged from the present format, adopted by a 30-minute FP2 that replaces the hour-long Follow session. Critically, lap instances in that FP2 now not carry over to determine qualifying entry. The prevailing Follow served because the cut-off that sends the quickest 10 riders straight to Q2 and everybody else by Q1. Beginning subsequent season, Fridays will shut with the brand new Dash qualifying session.
