The Dallas Mavericks fired coach Jason Kidd this Tuesdayaccording to the ESPN network.
Kidd, 53, he led the Mavericks since 2021 and took the Texas franchise to End of 2024losses against the Boston Celtics.
The former American player, who was NBA champion with the Mavericks in 2011, endured a difficult season, in which they finished with a balance of 26-56 and were left out of the fight for the playoffs.
Mavericks’ ambitions have shrunk vertically after the departure of Luka Doncicin February 2025 with destination Los Angeles Lakers.
“The time is right for a new direction”
Masai Ujiri, president of the franchise, had some parting words for Kidd: “Jason has had a significant impact on the Dallas Mavericks, both as a Hall of Fame player and as a head coach who helped lead this franchise back to the NBA Finals. We are grateful for Jason’s leadership, his professionalism and his commitment to the team. In my short time here, I have developed enormous respect for what he has built. He will always be an important part of the Mavericks family.”
The Texan ‘boss’ is already looking to the future: “As we evaluate the future of our basketball program, we believe this is the right time for a new direction for our team. We have high expectations for this franchise and the responsibility of building a basketball organization capable of competing for championships on a sustained basis. We will conduct a thorough and disciplined search for our next head coach and will continue to evaluate our entire basketball operations staff to ensure that we compete at the level that Mavs fans expect and deserve.”
