Getafe is not only competing for the Conference position. After their victory against Mallorca they now have within reach the Europa League position that Celta currently occupies with only two points ahead of the Azulones. A situation has flooded Getafe with excitement. Quite the opposite happens in Palma de Mallorca, where they will spend the remaining two days with a lump in their throat because relegation is looming.
José Bordalás surprised everyone by bringing Nyom into the starting eleven and it took the Frenchman very few minutes to show that his coach had been completely right with that decision. First with a lateral cross that neither Cáceres nor Arambarri were able to finish and shortly after, with a perfect assist that Satriano only had to push to make it 1-0.
From there, Getafe became strong in defense to prevent balls from reaching Muriqi. Romero and Domingos Duarte deactivated the Pirate with impeccable marking, while Iglesias and Nyom prevented Mallorca from getting balls into the area.
During the first half hour the Vermillions were unable to connect with their Pichichi, but after half an hour of play Muriqi gave the first warning by heading a corner taken by Jan Virgili onto the crossbar, despite Romero’s strong marking. Muriqi didn’t even need to jump to shake the crossbar with his header.
Shortly after, Luvumbo broke Getafe’s defensive line with speed, but Romero prevented him from completing the play. The Angolan remained on the ground demanding a penalty, but Martínez Munuera did not see anything punishable.
Just before half-time, Getafe’s second goal also came from Satriano. As in the first, David Soria takes a long shot, Valjent gives back a header to his goalkeeper Leo Román, but he had gone to the edge of the area for some unknown reason, leaving the ball dead to Satriano. The Uruguayan only had to push the ball to score the second.
Getafe punishes again
Demichelis made a move after the break, bringing on Pablo Torre for Luvumbo, but the match continued with the same dynamic. With Getafe very serious in defense and Mallorca not knowing what to do when they had the ball.
The third for Getafe would come, the work of Romero, when he headed a masterful free kick taken by Milla. With no time to celebrate the goal, Mallorca closed the gap with a similar play. Free kick by Pablo Torre and header into Mascarell’s net.
Mallorca looked for the goal to give them the necessary impetus to revolutionize the match, but Getafe did not give up and continued to tie up their rival and prevent them from reacting. Even the azulón team had some opportunities to increase the lead, such as a shot by Arambarri that Leo Román took.
