Something is being done wrong or nothing is being done when It is normal to blow the Spanish anthem in an event of this resonance. Masking it in a supposed demonstration of freedom of expression can lead people to think that anything goes. The same thing happens when you whistle the anthem of another country or offend a group, as has recently happened in a Spanish national team match.
If a part of a fan understands that an anthem does not represent it, what it should do is remain silent and respectful. Membership is not mandatory and it is logical to admit the discrepancy within limits. It is a simple question of education.
As this is not the first time this has happened, the time has come to take action. Gratuitously dirtying the show in this way is a victory for the disrespectful and rude. Sports authorities should study how to radically end this tradition that sends a harmful message to the world about this country and its way of understanding sport and institutions.
It is time to include this type of offenses in the disciplinary code or competition rules. If blowing the anthem led to a one-year sanction without playing in the tournament, more than one would think about it. Let’s do it. In addition, it would force clubs to dissuade and promote campaigns that urge their radicals to desist from these types of practices. Blowing the national anthem is not a sport. Enough already.
