CD Extremadura has taken a relevant step in its structure with the entry of NXTPLAY, the sports investment platform co-founded by Thibaut Courtois and Gonzalo Vila, which becomes part of the club’s shareholders as co-owner. The agreement is formalized together with the current president Daniel Tafur, who will continue to lead both the institutional area and the sports project.
The operation, worked on for nearly a year, coincides with a historic moment for the Extremaduran entity, which has just achieved its fourth consecutive promotion and returns to the First Federation, an unprecedented milestone in Spanish football. This sporting growth has been one of the factors that has consolidated the entry of the new investor into the club.
The figure of Thibaut Courtois takes on special relevance in this movement, since the Real Madrid goalkeeper expands his involvement in the management and ownership of clubs through NXTPLAY. The Belgian had previously promoted the platform’s entry into Le Mans FC, a team that recently managed to be promoted to Ligue 1, thus reinforcing its commitment to expansion projects within European football.
With this new addition, both CD Extremadura and Le Mans FC—both linked to NXTPLAY—have managed to rise in category in the same season, a fact that reinforces the impact of the investment model promoted by Courtois and his partner.
