It is exhausting to see a vibrant spot for Penn State soccer after dropping its fourth straight recreation in a turnover-riddled efficiency to Michigan on the street, but when there may be one, it might simply be Chase Sowell.
Within the Nittany Lions’ 21-18 loss to the Wolverines, the redshirt senior and Iowa State switch was the most effective large receiver on the sphere from both group, recording 11 catched for 151 yards and a landing. It was Sowell’s finest recreation by far in a Penn State uniform, from his first double-digit reception recreation to his first 100-yard recreation, and he did it with contested catch after contested catch.

Nonetheless, the temper was somber after the loss regardless of the memorable efficiency.
“It is very irritating, no matter what I did,” Sowell mentioned after the sport. “I at all times really feel like I can do extra to assist the group. I, and a whole lot of the fellows on this offense, take a whole lot of accountability. It at all times hurts, no matter what you probably did on the sphere.”
Since Koby Howard went down with an damage, Sowell has change into a extra outstanding determine within the passing assault for head coach Matt Campbell and the Penn State offense. During the last 4 video games, he is steadily progressed, changing into extra comfy with the scheme. If it wasn’t for him, the offense could be in a a lot worse place.
At 3-4, Penn State’s season outlook is bleak, however the silver lining could possibly be how properly Sowell has performed with out Howard to enhance him. As soon as Howard returns (every time that’s), the offense must be extra dynamic and explosive than it was to begin the 12 months, hopefully leading to a optimistic end for Campbell’s first 12 months on the helm.
