The Cincinnati Bengals are at the moment the one crew in the whole NFL that hasn’t recorded a single run of no less than 14 yards this season. It sounds arduous to consider, however that’s simply how the numbers look proper now. They’re taking part in it secure, and that security may come on the expense of Chase Brown.
Samaje Perine Takes Middle Stage
Throughout the Week 5 win towards the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, the Bengals modified how they assault the road. In line with The Athletic, the crew moved towards extra downhill operating utilizing the shotgun formation. This particular setup appears to favor the type of backup operating again Samaje Perine.
Perine was a powerhouse throughout that sport. He averaged 4.9 yards on 14 carries. In line with r, his 57.1% success fee was tied for the very best within the league final weekend. It was a giant leap for him, too. He really had yet another speeding try than Brown did throughout that very same sport.
The distinction between the 2 backs was plain to see. Whereas Perine was discovering gaps, Brown struggled to search out the tip zone and even massive chunks of yardage. He managed solely 39 yards on 13 carries, which is simply 3.0 yards per try. He did assist in the air, although, catching three of his 4 targets for 21 yards.
A Cut up Choice for the Bengals
I don’t find out about you, however I hate it when issues really feel unsettled. It’s like ready for a physician to name with take a look at outcomes. The Bengals teaching workers feels the identical method about their backfield rotation.
Offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher is just not promising a set plan but. “I feel we’ll regularly assess how that contact share between (Perine) and Chase Brown ought to play out,” Pitcher mentioned, in keeping with RotoBaller NFL. He additionally famous that “Each sport’s completely different.”
Brown remains to be an enormous a part of this group. He has 24 catches up to now, which ranks second-most for any operating again within the NFL by 5 weeks. But when the Bengals preserve utilizing that shotgun look to let Perine grind out yards, Brown’s touches may transfer away from the center of the sphere. How groups defend Cincinnati will doubtless determine if Brown stays a workhorse or turns into a specialist.
