Alabama’s Ryan Williams Sidelined: Star Receiver Unlikely to Feature Against ULM

Alabama’s standout wide receiver Ryan Williams will likely miss Saturday evening’s matchup with Louisiana Monroe as he continues recovering from a head injury sustained in the season opener.

The sophomore pass-catcher remains doubtful for the Crimson Tide’s home contest following the concussion he suffered during Alabama’s disappointing 31-17 defeat to Florida State in their opening game, according to ESPN sources.

Injury Details and Recovery Progress

Williams sustained the head injury late in the FSU clash after taking a heavy hit from two Seminoles defenders – safeties Earl Little Jr. and Ashlynd Barker. The receiver required assistance from medical staff to leave the field and was immediately taken to the locker room for evaluation.

Head coach Kalen DeBoer provided an encouraging update during his weekly Southeastern Conference coaches’ media call, noting that Williams has been “progressing well” and has returned to practice activities. However, this positive development hasn’t translated to game availability for the ULM encounter.

Williams’ Season Opener Performance

In the Florida State loss, Williams managed five receptions from 11 attempts for 30 yards, though his performance was hampered by three dropped passes – the most among Alabama receivers. Despite the challenging outing, Williams enters the season as Alabama’s top returning pass-catcher from the previous campaign.

Looking Ahead

The Crimson Tide will host Louisiana Monroe this Saturday, September 6th, with kickoff set for 6:45 p.m. Central Time. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network as Alabama looks to bounce back from their season-opening setback without one of their key offensive weapons.

Williams’ absence would represent a significant blow to Alabama’s passing attack as they seek their first victory of the 2025 campaign.
